PHOTOGRAPHER | DOCUMENTARIES

Cédric is a documentary photographer currently based in New York who works extensively as a photographer and photo editor. Born in Bern, Switzerland, Cédric graduated from the Visual Journalism & Documentary Practice program at the International Center of Photography, New York, where he is currently holds the position of teaching assistant to the Chair of the Program.

Cédric has previously worked for the NGO Gemeinsam für Kobani which led to the creation of his documentary work Leaving War Behind that examined the refugee crisis taking place along the Turkey – Syrian border in 2012. Travelling to the border town of Suruc, he followed the humanitarian efforts of volunteers in and around the refugee camp and examined how the crisis affected communities living there.

Leaving War Behind was exhibited at “VISA pour l’Image” in Perpignan, France (2015) and published in numerous media outlets. Since then, he has worked closely with NGOs and foundations, mentoring them in terms of visual storytelling and developing media strategies. His interest in politics and human rights led him to creating his main body of work titled City Upon a Hill, which focused on the political landscape in the United States, investigating the polarisation of the American people. He closely followed the campaign trail and covered major topics of the 2016 US election, exploring the issues of conservatism, police violence and controversies surrounding the children of undocumented immigrants. He is currently working on a book whilst continuing this project.

In addition to these major assignments, Cédric has also devoted much of his time with Swiss-based initiatives, working with people with disabilities, drug-related sicknesses or other marginalised groups such as the LGBTQ and refugee communities in Switzerland. He has also spent 2 years working as an editor for a locally-based magazine in Switzerland, tutoring students in digital photography, reporting and storytelling.

Selected work has been published in TIME, American Photography, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Swissinfo, Tages-Anzeiger and has been part of several exhibitions worldwide. Most recently, Cédric had the honour of being nominated as an Emerging Photographer by the American publication for professional photographers, PDN.
